Prescribed or referred by a Primary Care Provider (Medical Doctor, Naturopathic Doctor, Doctor of Chiropractic, Doctor of Osteopathy or Nurse Practitioner) that is medically necessary for a specific condition. This may be acute pain due to an injury such as a torn muscle, sprained tendon or other painful condition such as Carpal Tunnel or Rotator Cuff injury.
Treatment is confined to the specific area of pain and the associated soft tissues that may be reacting to the pain. The treatment plan is limited to a number of massage sessions, typically up to 8 to 12 or to a specific time span. Typically anything beyond this will be regarded as maintenance massage and will not be covered by insurance. Check with your plan administrator for specifics.
